A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid KemmererMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
Brigid Kemmerer’s A Curse So Dark and Lonely is a modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast with a very different twist than the story we all know and love. Although set in the present, we are transported to a world filled with magic and mystery.
Harper is a high school senior who struggles to make ends meet as her ailing mother fights cancer and her brother works as an enforcer for the mob to pay off their father’s debts. While standing watch, Harper witnesses a young man kidnapping a woman and in an effort to save the woman Harper jumps him. During the struggle, the two are transported to a land that isn’t on Earth.
Welcome to Emberfall, guys.
Disoriented and confused, Harper finds herself in Rhen’s castle. Prince Rhen of Emberfall is the last of his line and sole heir to the throne. Cursed by a sorceress named Lilith, Rhen must repeat the autumn of his eighteenth birthday over and over again, never aging a day, until he finds a woman to love him. When Autumn ends, Rhen is transformed into a creature that seeks to achieve only one goal. Destroy.
Filled with witches, magic, and love, Kemmerer’s first installment of the A Curse So Dark and Lonely series sucks you and doesn’t let go until the story is told. Absolute amazing novel!
