Hi Everyone! Below is my ongoing Encyclopedia of the Maas-verse. This post is a two parter, this post focusing on the characters (mainly major ones) and my thoughts about them. In part two of my post, I will discuss and breakdown the lore and government system. Honestly, Little Birds, this is for me more than it’s for you. Writing helps my mind visualize things. Anywho, here goes nothing… *cracks knuckles*

CHARACTERS:

House of Earth and Blood:

  🐦‍⬛  ↳ Bryce Quinlan | Illegitimate Daughter of The Autumn King:

         Species: Half Human – Half Fae | House: House of Sky and Breath

Bryce was born to a human mother who fell in love with the Autumn King. Her mother, Ember, fled when the King hurt her so bad he left a scar on her face. Soon after she fled, she discovered she was pregnant and stayed on the run. Eventually, Ember remarried and Bryce was raised by her and her sweet new husband. When she was thirteen, Ember forced Bryce to go to an oracle as a way to connect with her Vanir heritage. What the oracle saw blinded them and they cast Bryce out of her storefront. When Bryce returned to her father’s home, she found her bags on the sidewalk outside the gate. Thrown own like trash. 

Through many issues of self-image and bullying, Bryce filled the void with s3x, drugs, and booze. Her best friend, Danika, and she were partners in crime and always got themselves into trouble. When she found Danika’s remains, she stopped drinking and doing drugs. It was interesting to read how grief, in a way, helped her. Even if the change came from a place of guilt. 

Bryce’s wit and inability to take sh!t made her character so fun to read! She gave back as much as she got and sometimes more. I loved her confidence. Bryce is my new idol – or dare I say, <i>book girlfriend</i>?

  🐦‍⬛  ↳ Hunt Athlar | Umbra Mortis:

         Species: Malakh | House: House of Sky and Breath

A 233-year-old angel who was part of the rebellion that led to his enslavement. Bond to Micah, an archangel and governor, Hunt was made to pay for each life taken in the rebellion by killing anyone Master wanted. With that having been Micah at the time, Hunt was forced to protect and follow Bryce Quinnlan while he tried to find The Horn and solve the murders. 

Because of his assassin status, Hunt was nicknamed the Umbra Mortis, “The Shadow of Death.” His personality was stoic and dry. Your average grumpy MMC. For most of the book, he was fighting his attraction and intrigue of Bryce while also pining for a lost love who died in the Rebellion. Part of his punishment was an enchanted tattoo of barbed wire across his forehead just below his hairline. In the end, he was free of both this curse as well as his enslavement by the new Queen of Witches for his help in unmasking Governor Micah. 

🐦‍⬛  ↳ Micah Domitus | Governor Archangel of Lunathion:

         Species: Malakh | House: House of Sky and Breath

Governor Archangel Micah was a power-hungry prick who was one of the beings responsible for the creation and distribution of Synth. He was also responsible for the death of the entire Pack of Devils, as well as the attempted murder of Bryce. 

🐦‍⬛  ↳ Ithan Holstrom: 

         Species: Wolf Shifter | House: House of Earth and Blood

Ithan was the younger brother of the late Connor, who was Danika’s second in command. Ithan wasn’t officially part of the Pack but hung around enough that he was being considered. When Danika and his brother died, Ithan distanced himself from Bryce and essentially cut her off. 

🐦‍⬛  ↳ Danika Fendyr | Alpha of the Pack of Devils:

         Species: Wolf Shifter | House: House of Earth and Blood

Danika was the Alpha of the Pack of Devils and was a known party girl. She was known to be fiercely loyal to those she loved and had a sister-like relationship with Bryce. Danika died after she consumed Synth. Micah had enlisted her to distribute it and she sampled her supply. As a side effect of Synth, Danika ripped Connor apart before ripping herself apart. Her death was recorded on audio where she begged and pleaded for it to stop. 

When Danika died, Bryce made a bargain where she offered up her spot in the Bone Quarter to guarantee that Danika made it to peace. During Bryce’s Drop, Danika was her anchor; something that has never been done before and shouldn’t be possible due to the fact that Danika has no physical form. This scene had me sobbing.  

Before she died, Danika stole the Horn from her mother and had it melted down then tattooed into the flesh on Bryce’s spine. Therefore Bryce was now the only one who could wield the Horn. 

🐦‍⬛  ↳ Sabine Fendyr | Prime Apparent of the Valbaran Wolves:

         Species: Wolf Shifter | House: House of Earth and Blood

Sabine was the daughter of the Prime of the Wolves and the mother of Danika. Sabine was a coldhearted, nasty woman who had hatred running through her veins. She used her daughter’s death to exhibit violence when in reality she treated her daughter like garbage. Sabine spent most of the story blaming Bryce for the death of Danika and for stealing the Horn. It wasn’t until the end of the story that Bryce realized the Horn was embedded into her skin, so she spent most of the book confused and exasperated at Sabine. Sabine was a raging, pulsing cunt and I hope she dies soon. 

🐦‍⬛  ↳ Einar Danaan | The Autumn King:

         Species: Fae | House: House of Sky and Breath

Oh, look! Another misogynistic c*nt with a superiority complex and a tiny wee (probably).

Einar, the Autumn King, was the ruler over all fae and father to both Ruhn and Bryce; although he refused to claim the latter. Einar had a romance with Bryce’s human mother, Ember, and after an altercation that left Ember’s face scarred, she fled and hid from Einar. Einar spent most of the book looking down on and talking sh!t about his daughter.
