What The Vibes Are
What It’s About
A murder…A tragic accident…Or just parents behaving badly? What’s indisputable is that someone is dead.
Madeline is a force to be reckoned with. She’s funny, biting, and passionate; she remembers everything and forgives no one. Celeste is the kind of beautiful woman who makes the world stop and stare, but she is paying a price for the illusion of perfection. New to town, single mom Jane is so young that another mother mistakes her for a nanny. She comes with a mysterious past and a sadness beyond her years. These three women are at different crossroads, but they will all wind up in the same shocking place.
Big Little Lies is a brilliant take on ex-husbands and second wives, mothers and daughters, schoolyard scandals, and the little lies that can turn lethal.
What I thought about it
***Possible Spoilers below
Big Little Lies was an entertaining enough read. It was a little too slow for me and way too much drama. However, it was an accurate interpretation of rich helicopter mothers whose lives revolved around PTA meetings and their “little angels.” Moriarty also gave a glimpse into a toxic and abusive marriage, how women deal with affairs, and how other parents deal with child bullies. All crescendoing to the point of rage and murder. Since this is also a TV series, I definitely think that Madeline’s character was made for Reese Witherspoon. Very similar to the characters she has played before, a perfect fit. I recommend Big Little Lies if you love mom drama with a splash of Karens, as well as a good mystery.
