🕊️ ➞ Synopsis:

Bolivian-Argentinian Inez Olivera belongs to the glittering upper society of nineteenth-century Buenos Aires, and like the rest of the world, the town is steeped in old-world magic that’s been largely left behind or forgotten. Inez has everything a girl might want, except for the one thing she yearns the most: her globetrotting parents—who frequently leave her behind.

When she receives word of their tragic deaths, Inez inherits their massive fortune and a mysterious guardian, an archeologist in partnership with his Egyptian brother-in-law. Yearning for answers, Inez sails to Cairo, bringing her sketch pads and an ancient golden ring her father sent to her for safekeeping before he died. But upon her arrival, the old world magic tethered to the ring pulls her down a path where she soon discovers there’s more to her parent’s disappearance than what her guardian led her to believe.

With her guardian’s infuriatingly handsome assistant thwarting her at every turn, Inez must rely on ancient magic to uncover the truth about her parent’s disappearance—or risk becoming a pawn in a larger game that will kill her.

🕊️ ➞ My Thoughts:

What The River Knows was everything I wanted and more. If you’re craving the vibe from the movie The Mummy, this book is for you. The action kept me on my toes, the twists and turns of trying to figure out who to trust kept me reading, and let’s not forget the revelations at the end!! I’m still reeling from it! The action scenes, mystery plot, and Egyptian myth and magic woven into the story allowed for a beautifully written historical setting that will immerse you completely.

Inez Olivieria traveled to Egypt after learning that her parents had gone missing in the desert and were presumed dead. As soon as she stepped off the boat, she was approached by an Englishman, Whitford Hayes, who insisted she board the next boat back to Argentina immediately. Claiming he worked for her uncle, Whit and Inez went head to head as she fought to stay in Egypt, desperate to figure out what happened to her parents.

Inez and Whit’s relationship was so sweetly written and Whit was such a cunning and sweet character. His touch-her-and-die vibe was spot on and now I’m wondering if I’m attracted to gingers… Hmm…

That being said, I need book two to come out sooner than November because that cliffhanger wasn’t f*cking funny, ma’am. I need to know what’s going on and what that telegram meant.

In conclusion, if you haven’t read What The River Knows I have one question for you…

Kidding!… We already know what’s wrong with you… HA

ANYWHO ❤️

You should run to the bookstore if you haven’t read it! If you have, leave a comment with your thoughts! I look forward to reading it!

Side Note: My partner told me that during the time period of this book, the rich used to eat the mummies. Apparently, that’s why there aren’t many mummies left… Who knows! What I do know was that one of the tomb raiders wanted Cleopetra’s body so he could cut it down, pulverize it, and ingest it for its magical healing abilities. The way I closed that book, walked up to my partner, and grumpily told them (kiddingly) “I hate you.” Then went back into my cave as they laughed so hard they fell over.
