🕊️ ➞ Synopsis:
The first book in the #1 New York Times bestselling series that inspired the hit ABC Family TV show Pretty Little Liars.
In ultra-trendy Rosewood, Pennsylvania, four beautiful girls are hiding very ugly secrets. High school juniors Spencer, Hanna, Aria, and Emily have grown apart since their best friend Alison DiLaurentis went missing three years ago. But now someone is sending them anonymous notes, threatening to reveal their darkest secrets. There’s only one person who knows that much about them, but Ali’s gone . . . isn’t she?
Full of unexpected twists and shocking revelations, this is the first book in New York Times bestselling author Sara Shepard’s compelling Pretty Little Liars series.
🕊️ ➞ My Thoughts:
After watching a good part of the Pretty Little Liars television series, I wanted to give the book series a try. Honestly, I was disappointed. I thought they dramatized the story for TV but nope, it was equally as dramatic. The producers and writers followed the books decently since book one was basically the few episodes (if not the first, it’s been a while) of the show so I found it a bit boring. Although, these girls’ family dynamics were interesting; each had their own household issues that they kept close and hidden as much as possible. One interesting thing was Emily’s character. In the show, she was played by Shay Mitchell who has an olive complexion while in the book the character is a ginger. This is relevant because, in the book, her mother isn’t just homophobic she’s racist, too. The rest of the girls’ families were portrayed quite accurately in the show.
Overall, it was a passive and okay read. I will most likely try the next book to see if it picks up; I’d like to see how this story ends, and not from the show that took the plotline on too many crazy turns… Anywho, if you’ve read Pretty Little Liars, drop a comment below with your opinion on it! What do you think of the book versus the show? Which do you like better and why? How about the book’s larger time jump, what’re your thoughts on that? What do you think happened to Allison? Do you think she’s truly dead? Who do you think A is?
I can’t wait to read your answers!
